Bill Sycalik Wanted Out of the City, So an Epic Running Adventure was Born

On today’s show, I’m going a few easy miles with Bill Sycalik.

Bill is currently on quite the epic running adventure as he’s traveling around the USA running a marathon in each of the 59 National Parks.

Bill Sycalik and I

And this chat was extra special because I was actually joined “in studio” by Bill himself!

The Start of the Adventure

Before starting this epic adventure, Bill was living and working in a corporate job in New York City and wanted a change.

Bill heard that the National Parks Service was celebrating its 100 year anniversary, and the idea to travel the country to run a marathon in each of the 59 National Parks in the USA was born.

Stories from the Parks

I didn’t talk with Bill about a lot of “running specific” topics in our chat today, instead, I spent most of our conversation talking about the sights and experiences he’s had in the parks so far.

As you may imagine, each of the parks has been special and unique in their own way, but he shared some specific stories about running in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Acadia National Park, and several others.

If you’d like to see photos from all of the parks that he’s run in, and they are worth a look, click here.

What is Next?

While Bill isn’t looking too far ahead, I did ask him if he’d thought of what his life would look like once he’s finished with this adventure.

After quitting his job and giving up his place in NYC, a new start is in order.

Bill would like to relocate west to Colorado and plans to look for a job more aligned with his values and passions.

Another option? Getting into public speaking, specifically talking about this adventure.

If you’d like to follow along with Bill and the rest of his adventure, check out his website and contact him on Twitter, Instagram, and/or Facebook.
