5 of the Best Non-Running Running Movies

When you think about your favorite running movies, what are the first titles that pop in your head?

Chariots of Fire?

McFarland USA?

Spirit of the Marathon?

All fine choices, to be sure, but none of them crack my top 5.

Honestly, the first 5 running movies that pop into my head aren’t even running movies. Read more

Bad Running Habits You Should Let Go of Like an Old Flame (w/ Video)

Whether you want to admit it or not, if you’re a runner you’re a creature of habit.

We all are.

Once we figure out what works for us on race day, and we do everything we can to avoid deviating from our script.

For me personally, I’ve found that what works for me for longer races is getting up early enough to eat a legitimate breakfast before my race.

And no, a legitimate breakfast isn’t a half of a bagel with a schmear of peanut butter and banana slices on it.

Big Breakfast in Post on Bad Running Habits

That’s a Good Start…

In my world, a legitimate breakfast is 3-4 eggs, preferably fried but scrambled/omelet works in a pinch, with home fries and grits.

And coffee. Lots of coffee.

How to Deal with a Sprained Ankle as a Runner

When we talk about running injuries, we typically think of the repetitive motion/overuse type of injuries like plantar fasciitis or shin splints.

These overuse injuries are certainly common among runners, but they aren’t the only injuries that runners find themselves dealing with from time to time.

Certain running injuries can come out of nowhere in the blink of an eye.

One such example is a sprained ankle.

A Sprained Ankle Can Happen to Any of Us

Model Sprained Ankle

And She’s OK… Game On!

Whether you run on the roads, the track, or the trails, a sprained ankle is a distinct possibility for any runner.

  • Step of a curb while running on the road and land funny
  • Running in a pack during a longer distance track race and step on another runners foot
  • An exposed tree root is one of many opportunities to turn an ankle while running on a trail

While I believe that most overuse injuries in running can be prevented, with something like a sprained ankle there really isn’t much that can be done in terms of prevention.

Sometimes your foot lands on an uneven surface, and before you know what happened you’re down.

Don’t Forget to Strengthen Your Feet! Wait, What?

Running injuries and strength training exercises for runners are easily two of the topics I talk about most on this website.

Why?

Well, with running injuries it’s what I know the most about and where my real expertise in the running world lies. I may never be the worlds greatest runner or running coach, but if you got a problem, (Yo!) I’ll solve it! (Get it?)

Or at least, I’ll help you solve it.

And strength training gets talked about a fair amount because I think it’s important and I think it can do wonders to help many of the most common running injuries.

But in all of my strength training videos, at least until now, I’ve never mentioned some of the most important exercises you can do to specifically target one of the most overlooked (and thus, most problematic) areas on a runner: the feet.
