Heather Caplan Believes that the Best Diet is No Diet at All
Today I’m running a few easy miles with an anti-diet dietician.

Heather Caplan on the Trails
Heather Caplan has a few different titles in her byline. In addition to being a dietician, she is also a freelance writer, podcast host, runner, and coach.
I’m extremely excited that Heather has carved the the time out of her busy schedule to chat today.
The Starting Gate
Heather was not the biggest fan of running when she was younger.
Eventually, like many of us, she has been bitten by the running bug and she hasn’t looked back.

Disordered Eating
Individuals can struggle with disorderd eating without even knowing it.
Many different things that can trigger an eating disorder, but one of the most common for runners are haunting comments from coaches or teammates
An eating disrder that I had never heard of, but that Heather herself has struggled with, is called orthorexia.
This is an eating disorder where the person has an unhealthy obsession with only eating healthy foods.
Anti-Diet, Pro Real Talk

Heather Caplan
Heather is a dietitian that doesn’t believe in diets that consist of a set of food rules that you have to follow. Research has shown that those types of diets don’t really work anyway.
Heather is a proponent of intuitive eating.
The “rule” of intuitive eating are pretty simple: eat what you want, when you want, and stop when you are full.
Heather understands that intuitive eating sounds odd but she has plenty of proof that it works.
