Ian Morgan Has Traveled Across the World in Pursuit of Adventure
Today I’m going a few easy miles with world traveler, adventure seeker, and lover of all things running, Ian Morgan.
Long distance endurance events are his preference and he has literally pushed his limits all the way to the hospital.
Clearly, he is no stranger to overcoming obstacles.
Running Is the Great Equalizer
Running recently re-entered his life as an adult as a way to lose weight and decrease stress.
Ian grew up in New Zealand and has lived and traveled all over the world.
It was through his travels that he found the running culture was similar in all countries.
There was a familiarity with runners that extended across all languages.
Running even played a part in meeting his wife halfway across the world in Chile.
Discussions of running injuries online led to them hitting it off.
Getting To the Heart Of the Matter
Ian’s first and only DNF occurred when he was forced to drop from a race and transported to a hospital.
The cause of the medical event was a blood clot due to previously unknown genetic heart disease.
No more running was the advice that Ian received from his doctors.
This close call forced Ian to reevaluate his life and listen to his body.
He still continued to push the limits when he ran a 10k a week after his heart surgery against the recommendations of his doctors.
Ian’s reasoning for following his heart was, “You can find a million reasons not to do something, or one reason to do it. Someday you won’t be around.”
