Focusing on Mindfulness in Daily Life Has Helped Jinger Moore in Running as Well

Today I’m catching up with Jinger Moore again to dive into her story with a little more depth.

Jinger Moore

Jinger was a part of the Salty Running group chat from a few months back, but today she’s flying solo.

Taking Another Shot at a BQ

Jinger is gearing up for another shot at qualifying for Boston later this spring at the Cleveland Marathon.

One thing that Jinger and I have in common is that according to our race times in orther distances, we “should” be much faster in the marathon based on various pace prediction calculators.

And we both agree that pace calculators are an inexact science at best!

Mindfulness and Meditation

Jinger started practing being more mindful and meditating a few years ago after struggling with anxiety and depression.

She entered a program to help her battle her anxiety, and as part of the process she was exposed the idea of incorporating mindfulness into her life.

That helped, along with some other changes, and a couple of years later she started to get into meditation as well with the help of the headspace app.

Running and Mindfulness

As Jinger continued to practice mindfulness and meditation in her life, she started to explore using those same principals in her running.

By practicing being more mindful, Jinger doesn’t let herself spiral downward when negative thoughts enter her head before or during a run.

Hmmm… Maybe this is something I need to incorporate myself!

Mindfulness can take on many different forms, one that you may be familiar with would be a mantra, but the goal is to snap you out of your thoughts and simply allow you to be in the present.

Try Mindfulness For Yourself

As we finished up our chat, Jinger led a quick 5 minute mindfulness exercise.

If you’d like to download the mp3 of just the mindfullness exercise to use whenever you need to quite your mind, fill in your info below and I’ll send it to you!
