Thanks for considering joining me for a run on the Diz Runs With podcast. I really appreciate your willingness to take the time out of your schedule to chat and share of yourself with my listeners. It really means a lot to me.
Here is the scoop for how the show flows, what you need to know on the technical side of the conversation, and how to schedule a time to talk.
The Show Side of Things–
The conversation starts off with a quick ice breaker question, and from that point on the conversation will be very free flowing. (The ice breaker question is “What is your favorite distance to race and why?”) I will, however, have a handful of topics available so that if the conversation seems like it’s stalling I can get us back on track without too much awkwardness.
The best episodes of the podcast often have one thing in common, guests that are open to sharing some stories from their lives as we chat. When I created this show, I did so because I’ve always believed that runners have some of the best stories that I have ever heard. As the show has evolved over time, the one constant has continued to be my love of hearing different stories from my different guests. These stories give the show the conversational dynamic that I am aiming for, so please feel free to elaborate when we are talking. Share at will, elaborate to your hearts content, and I can almost guarantee that my audience will love your episode!
Speaking of my audience, listeners of my show are runners of all shapes/sizes/distances/experiences. Our common bond is that we are all runners, and everything else are just details.
If there is anything you’d like to share/promote/plug, please feel free to let me know and we can work together to work those topics into the natural flow of the conversation. And if there is any topic that you’re sick of talking about/don’t want to talk about, just let me know and I won’t bring it up. 🙂
Once again, the idea behind the show is that it is a conversation between the two of us while we are out on a run together, so I’ll be using some terrible running puns during the course of the chat–please bear with me!
The Before and After–
We will warm up and cool down/stretch “off air” (I warned you about the running puns!), but I try to keep the pre-show banter to a minimum so we can stay on the time schedule and not have to cut the conversation short.
I’ll just run a quick test to make sure the recording software is all working, go over a couple of last minute things before pressing record, make sure you don’t have any questions, and then we will go live.
After we finish the run, we can chat for a few minutes if you’d like, but if you have to get going I totally understand. I’ll also give you a tentative date for the release of the show.
The Tech Side of Things–
The conversation and recording will take place via an audio only Skype call. You can download Skype for free on any smart phones, tablets, or computer.
No special equipment is “required”, but if you have a microphone and headphones/earbuds it will really improve the recording quality. I use iPhone ear buds and a Blue Snowball ICE microphone, but even the 2-in-1 headsets work great for Skype calls/google hangouts.
The biggest thing is making sure you are in a quiet place, and if at all possible, use headphones. No matter what device you are using, without headphones there is often a slight echo that gets picked up and is almost impossible to edit out.
Scheduling–
To schedule a time to “go for our run”, just follow this link and you can pick the time that works best for you. If none of the times available work for your schedule, please let me know and we can work something out. Also, you are able to schedule for up to 60 days in the future, if you need time to schedule in advance.
The scheduling software is set to reserve a block of 60 minutes, but most of the conversations don’t last that long. Most likely, we are looking at a total of 45 minutes, but I set it for 60 just to be on the safe side.
I hope that clears up any questions that you might have, but if there is anything else you’d like to know, please don’t hesitate to ask. Feel free to email ( dizruns [@] gmail . com ) or reach out to me on twitter ( @dizuns ) and I’ll get back to you.
If you’d like to hear a show or two to get a better idea of what to expect, please click on podcast tab above or click here to see a list of all past guests. Then just choose an episode and enjoy!
Once you schedule a time to be on the show, I’ll send an additional email to get your pertinent information. And at that point, we will be good to go at the date and time that you chose.
Thanks again for even considering being a guest on my show, and I’m really looking forward to talking with you on our run!
