Julia Chi Taylor and I will go a few easy miles as we catch up on everything that has happened since our last chat.
Shooting For The Stars
Julia is a former elite runner that transitioned to barefoot running as she’s gotten older.
Barefoot running has allowed her to stay injury free and healthy.
Approaching her 60th year, the 5k is currently her favorite distance.
With her PR out of reach, she is setting her eyes on the possibility of trying to break the over 60 world record for the 5k.
Setting high goals is what motivates Julie, regardless of if she ever achieves them.
Being drawn to challenges is what prompted Julie to dream up running across Spain barefoot as a way to raise awareness for a cause close to her heart
Barefoot Across Spain
Julia began her journey across Spain on March 23rd, 2018 and finished on May 12, 2018.
Her purpose through it all was to bring awareness to end of life care and raise funds for, “Friends of Sussex Hospices.”
The 7-week journey was a pilgrimage of sorts for Julia and the many individuals that joined her along the way.
The challenges she encountered included lack of sleep, consistently rainy weather, and foot issues from traveling so far barefoot.
Mentally Julia was prepared by having strategies in place from years of competing as an elite athlete.
Quitting was never an option because the run was never about her.
As an introvert, Julia’s proudest moment was the 7 weeks spent with others and turning it into a positive experience.
The journey was unlike any other that she had experienced and allowed her to see herself more clearly.
