Julie McDonald is Packing Her Bags For a Life in Egypt

Today I’m going a few easy miles with a runner that has had a pretty dramatic change in her life in the past few months.

Julie McDonald and her husband moved–not across town or across the country, but across the ocean to a new continent!

Egypt is now the place that they call home, and the transition has been an experience, to say the least.

New Found Passion

Julie disliked running early in life.

The mile run at school often turned into “sick days” for her.

Julie’s first race was sort of a surprise from her husband looking for something to do as a couple.

Before she knew it, the love of the run started to show. She moved up from running 5ks to 10ks, and Julie ran her first marathon at 41!

Egyptian Difficulties

Julie was a bit surprised at how much she struggled to adapt to running in Egypt.

Not only is it hard to find a safe place to run, the weather, sand, and even the animals have become issues.

Now that Julie and her husband have settled into their housing compound, Julie is starting to get a bit more comfortable running in her new home.

The thought of starting a running group has even crossed her mind once or twice.

If nothing else, that would give her some more people to run with on occasion!
