Well, hot damn!
Somehow this piddly little podcast has made it to 700 episodes.
How did that even happen?
The Journey of 1,000 Miles
One of my favorite proverbs/adages is an oldie but goodie from China:
“The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.”
In all honesty, I don’t know that I ever thought I’d make it to 700 episodes of the podcast when the first episode went out almost 5 years ago.
When I published that first episode, when I took that first step if you will, I started this journey. And now, in all honesty, I have no idea where the journey will end.
Will I stop doing Diz Runs Radio someday?
I suppose it’s a possibility. There are no plans to stop the show anytime soon, but there’s no way of knowing what the future holds.
So I’ll continue to put out one episode at a time, taking the next step, and continue to enjoy the journey.
Just Get Started
When I started the show, there were a lot of things I wasn’t sure about.
Was anyone going to listen? Would people hate my voice? Would I struggle to find people willing to talk to me?
For whatever reason, and I honestly have no idea why, I didn’t worry about the unknowns.
I just started.
I recorded an interview and published it.
And now here we are, 699 episodes later.
You Don’t Need to Have All the Answers
One thing that holds a lot of people back, whether it’s podcasters or runners or whomever, is a desire to know all the answers before starting.
And in most cases, you’ll never get any answers until you start!
Once I got started, my initial questions were eventually answered.
- Will people listen? Absolutely.
- Will some people hate my voice? Probably, but there’s not much I can do about it. So whatevs.
- Would I be able to find people to interview? Occasionally it’s a struggle but, for the most part, it’s a non-issue.
Of course, every time one question gets answered another one or three pops up.
That’s just part of the process.
The questions I have now will eventually be answered, as long as I keep taking the next step.
What are You Waiting For?
As it relates to your running, what is something that you’re thinking about doing but hesitating to begin?
- Thinking about running your first half/full/whatever but not sure you can do it? Sign up and start training.
- Wondering if a change in training philosophy will work for you? Make the switch and see what happens!
- Uncertain of whether or not a coach can help you reach your goals? Invest in yourself and trust your coach. (And if you need a coach, I know a guy! Check out my coaching options and let me know what questions you have.)
Just. Get. Started.
Starting doesn’t mean you’re committed forever.
Most choices, especially those that relate to your running, can be undone.
- Not a fan of a longer distance race, or the training required to complete it? Lesson learned! Stick to the shorter stuff from now on.
- Frustrated with heart rate training or the Hansons philosophy? Go back to something that you’re more familiar with.
- Don’t like your coach? Fire that yohan!
The point is, get started and adjust as you go.
Sometimes those adjustments are subtle tweaks. Sometimes they are major overhauls.
But until you get started, how do you know how to proceed?
So get started.
Take that first step.
And enjoy the next 1,000 miles of the journey, wherever it may lead.
