Quick Tip: Life Happens to All of Us (So Relax Already, Eh?)
Sometimes life happens.
And when it does, we have to readjust our regular routines and our priorities, and that may mean missing a few runs along the way.
Is it ideal? No.
But it’s life.
Life Happened to Me This Week
This week has been a pretty darn good week, except for the fact that I didn’t run or do yoga or do pilates or do anything even remotely physical for two straight days.
And for me, that’s a problem.
I try to prioritize my running and other training in most cases. I mean, it is kind of my job, you know?
But this week was just one of those weeks when work was crazy, and I found myself at the desk for 10+ hours straight for a couple of days in a row.
Want to know how much activity I managed to squeeze into my routine on Tuesday and Wednesday? I took the dogs for a couple of 10-15 minute walks, I walked from the computer to the bathroom, and a refilled my coffee cup a few times.
I wish I could say that I was joking, but that is the God’s honest truth!
And somewhat surprisingly…
Life Happens. Move On.
Whether you can see the storm of life coming for a few days, or whether the crazy comes from seemingly out of nowhere, please try to accept the fact that life happens. And when it does, the best way to remedy the situation is to move on.
I have a whole chapter in my book talking about how to adapt your training when life happens and you miss a workout or two while training for a race.
The moral of the story is this: there are no “do or die” workouts.
If you miss a workout or two due to being sick or work being nutso for a few days or while helping your wife prep for her trip to China (not blaming you dear, I promise!), let it go! Stick to the rest of your training as near as you can, and you’ll be just fine.
And if you’re not currently training for anything, then missing a run or two becomes even less significant!
As runners, we want to run.
Some might even say we “need” to run.
But when life happens, and life always happens, don’t add more stress to your life by fretting about missing a run or few.
Let it go and move on.
And fricking nail your next workout, ok?
When life happens, the best thing you can do for your #running is to move on. #runchat Click To Tweet
