Lint Bunting Finds 100 Mile Races a Nice Alternative to Thru Hiking
On today’s episode, I’m joining Lint Bunting for less of a run and more of a hike. So we will see how this goes!

Lint Bunting
Lint is “new” to racing as a runner, but he is very experienced as a thru-hiker having hiked thousands of miles in the past several years on some of the best trails in the United States.
When you think about hiking, you probably aren’t thinking about what Lint does. Lint is an ultra-light hiker, meaning his aim is to take as little amount of gear with him as possible. He’s got his pack down to weighing less than 8 lbs, not counting food and water, and that pack contains all of the things that he needs for weeks spent out on the trail.
Here is a video for a television spot that featured Lint and his ultra-light hiking.
This summer, Lint completed the triple-triple crown of United States thru-hiking. It is thought that he was one of 3 people to ever hike the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail three times each.
We covered all this and more on our “hike” today, and here are some of the highlights of our chat.
- Getting a taste of ultra running
- Thru-hiking, how he got started, and the “newbie” mistakes he made
- Learning to do more with less while he’s out on the trail
- What items make it into his pack
- How he fuels himself while he is hiking
- Getting into running ultras and earning his first 100 mile belt buckle
- The biggest differences between ultra racing and thru-hiking
- His decision to run a 5k race!
- The joy of finding trail magic

Both the Facebook group and the email group provide opportunities that can’t be found anywhere else.
The Facebook group is still small, but it is a great way to connect with fellow runners and foster community amongst like minded individuals. The email group is THE way to stay up to date about future guests on the show, as well as getting some other freebies and offers that aren’t available to anyone else.
