Listener Q&A: September 2022

Happy fall, yall!

What a difference a state makes!

Early fall in FL might doesn’t feel any different than summer.

But early fall in GA?

I’m pretty confident that I won’t have to wait another 2-3 months to feel like summer is over.

Anyway, let’s get down to business!

You Ask, I Answer!

In case you’re new to these parts, here’s what’s going on.

At the end of every month, I do an episode dedicated to you and your questions.

Want to get a question answered in a future Q&A episode? Come join our FB group, watch for the post asking for Qs, and put your query in the comments.

Basically, whatever you ask I try to answer!

Sometimes, the answers aren’t worth a whole lot. But every once in a while I like to think (or at least hope!) that I hit the nail on the head!

When it comes to free advice, there are no guarantees that you won’t get any more than what you paid for it.

That said, I promise to do my best!

And if nothing else, there are usually at least a few decent memes/GIFs to make it worth your while.

Let’s get into this month’s questions, shall we?

This Month’s Questions

How are you liking GA so far?

What do you think about the lack of a buffer for Boston marathon qualification this year?

What do you think about a non-binary option for Boston?

Come one, come all.

Would you consider doing an Augusta and/or Atlanta meed up?

Nope

What lessons have you learned from your best and worst races? Also, what were your best and worst races?

Hmm

Best race: Celebration half, 2022.

Lesson learned: Run slow, race fast AF.

Lesson learned: training is kind of important.

As a race approaches, how do you determine if it’s worth going for broke if you’re better off being a little more conservative?

How is running in GA different from FL?

Do you have a favorite fall food?

I typically run 4-6 times per week. What would a good marathon training plan look like for me?

How many Ragnars have you run? Highlights? Struggles? Would you do another?

I’ve only done the one last year.

The highlight was meeting so many folks in person.

My biggest struggle was recovery. That weekend took a lot more out of me than I expected it would!

Would I do another?

Favorite products to reduce chafing?

At what point is it too late in the training cycle to make a difference in your race training?

A couple of weeks, typically.

On race day, do you run based on your heart rate or how you’re feeling?

I race by feel, for sure.

At what age is too old to try for a PR?

Shrug.

After a goal marathon DNF, how should I proceed with my base being so solid? Fast half? 10k? 5k?
