Matt Krul Finds The Magic Is In The Details Both At Disney And In Running

My guest today is a runner and fellow podcaster, but the similarities don’t end there.

He is also a former cast member at Walt Disney World and a frequent visitor to the House of Mouse, so there will likely be some talk of runDisney.

I am looking forward to going a few easy miles with Matt Krul today!

Matt Krul

It All Began With Run Disney

Matt Krul is a fairly new runner, taking up the sport about a year ago.

In the past 3 to 4 years he has run a handful of 5k’s, but never felt the urge to run longer.

That mindset all changed when a friend convinced him to do a Disney race.

Matt challenged himself by running both the 5k and the 10k.

Since those races, Matt has enjoyed increasing the distance and hopes to eventually run a half marathon at Disney in 2021.

Matt’s love for Disney is what has kept him coming back for more races there.

Matt has been obsessed with all things Disney for as long as he can remember.

Lifelong Love Of The Mouse

From childhood on, Matt has been fascinated with the history of Disney.

His passion has been cultivated over the years with a personal letter from Roy E. Disney and acceptance into a Disney college program.

As a college student, Matt was a seasonal employee with Disney and went on to work for them as an adult for a period.

His lack of proximity to the park, he currently lives in New York, prohibited him from continuing to work there.

Matt was determined to find a way to pursue his passion for Disney.

This goal of his was how the Imagineer Podcast came to be.

Imagineer Podcast

The Imagineer Podcast has been up and running for 2 and a half years, but it was in the making for much longer.

According to Matt, starting the podcast was the easy part, it is all the other work involved that challenges him the most.

The podcast is a labor of love for Matt and has evolved over time to branch out from only Disney related topics.

Matt has realized that creating and maintaining a podcast has some parallels to running.

Both require endurance and require him to pay attention to his pace.

He has struggled to slow his pace while running and to also slow his speech while recording.

Matt values any and all feedback he can get for his podcast in an effort to continue improving upon his finished product.

The Magic Is In The Details

Matt is especially intrigued by all the facts and details that surround each Disney park.

He is especially hard on himself if and when he gets a fact wrong, therefore he does thorough research before each episode.

His favorite lesser-known facts have to do with Space Mountain in both the Disney World and Disney Land locations.

When pressed, Matt shared his favorite rides at each Disney park which include:

  • Avatar Flight of Passage (Animal Kingdom)
  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (Hollywood Studios)
  • Living With The Land (Epcot)
  • Pirates of the Caribbean (Magic Kingdom)

Both running and doing a podcast have shown Matt that you don’t know what you’re capable of until you try.

He lives by the principle that something is only worth doing if you enjoy it.
