Today on the show, I’m joining Megan Finnesy for a few (hopefully) easy miles in the mountains.
“I Don’t Think of Myself as a Runner”
Megan has run several ultra marathons in her day, including the Hardrock 100, and yet to this day she has never “just” run a marathon!
How does that even happen?
Megan was an athelte growing up, that didn’t see how people could participate in a sport that was strictly running.
But in college she got into trail running a little bit, in part to avoid the “Freshman 15”, and from there she caught the bug.
And after volutineering at Hardrock, she decided she wanted to run that epic race.
Megan didn’t get into Hardrock the first time, so she had to run another qualifying race before reentering the lottery and ultimately getting into the race.
Race Director Extrordinare
Megan is the race director for both the Golden Gate Dirty 30 and the Silverton Double Dirty 30.
As a race director, Megan’s goal was to put together the type of races that she would like to run. Namely, single track through the woods without any loops.
And that’s what she has created.
But her races are much more than just races.
Both races focus on giving back to the community, and Megan works hard to make sure that there are cool awards and a great post race party as well.
The races are difficult, they are in the mountains afterall, but they really sound like they are both incredible events.
And spoiler alert, there’s a good chance I’ll be running the GG Dirty 30 in 2018. Care to join me?

There’s always room for more members of the tribe! Both the Facebook group and the email group provide opportunities that can’t be found anywhere else. The Facebook group is still small, but it is a great way to connect with fellow runners and foster community amongst like minded individuals. The email group is THE way to stay up to date about future guests on the show, as well as getting some other freebies and offers that aren’t available to anyone else. If you’ve got questions about either/both, just let me know!
