Merili Freear Discovered What is Possible Through Running

My guest today is a lady who wasn’t much of a runner a few years ago, but now running is a huge part of her life.

She has just become a coach and recently published her book Just Run.

I look forward to going a few easy miles with Merili Freear today!

Covid Lockdown

Merili Freear lived in the UK when the Covid lockdown occurred in 2020.

She had a 3-year-old child and was only allowed one hour outside daily.

Her mental health had begun to suffer with everything going on in the world around her.

A few times a week, Merili would try to run for 10 to 15 minutes outside.

Before Covid, she occasionally ran but she never took running seriously.

As she got more into the sport, Merili started to research running and joined some running-specific Facebook groups.

The more consistently she ran, the easier her running became.

Before long, running was a key part of her weekly routine during months of uncertainty.

Going All In

Merili joined the throngs of people signing up for virtual races in 2020.

Her first two marathons were completed virtually.

After running for a year and a half, Merili joined her local run club along with getting her coaching certificate.

Running hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Merili.

She has dealt with her fair share of injuries over the years as well.

The injuries and time away from running forced her to add strength training into her routine.

She has been injury-free for the past 2 years with the added benefit of strength.

Testing Her Limits

Since becoming a runner, Merili has enjoyed testing her limits.

She loves the challenge ultras provide.

The longest she has raced so far is 40 miles.

In a little over 2 weeks, Merili is set to test her limits once again.

She is signed up for her first 100-mile race.

The idea to run 100 miles has been on her mind for a while and now she will get the chance to go the distance.

Just Run

Merili always had aspirations to write a book.

After she completed her first marathon, writing a book seemed more possible than ever.

Doing something she never imagined she could do gave her the confidence to write a book.

Her book, Just Run: Discovering My Love for Running and How the Impossible Becomes Possible, was recently published.

The main message is to run your way and that anyone who runs is a runner.

Merili learned she could do more than she ever thought in running and life.

Once she learned to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, the sky was the limit.
