Pete Coser Takes Life One Step, One Breath, One Mile At a Time
Today we are catching up with someone that was on the show for the first time a couple of years ago.
He’s still going strong on the running front, so it only made sense to try and get him back on the show.
I am looking forward to reconnecting with my friend Pete Coser.
Run Focused
Prior to 2016, Pete Coser was fully immersed in lacrosse for over 20 years.
Lacrosse is still a part of his life, but in the last few years, running has completely taken over.
Pete refers to himself as a newer runner.
He never ran cross country or track while growing up.
As a newer runner, Pete is constantly learning and evolving.
He enjoys the process and is a proud member of the “party corral.”
Health Scare
When Pete starts a training cycle, he would typically lose some weight.
He never focused on his diet and usually ate whatever he wanted.
One year ago, Pete realized that he had gained weight and his body wasn’t responding as it usually did.
He chose to hire a running coach to see if that would help him jumpstart both his training and his health.
His diet continued to fluctuate and by July of 2022, he knew something wasn’t right.
Pete scheduled a physical with his doctor and that is where he found out that he was at pre-diabetic levels.
He immediately got aggressive with diet changes in the hopes that it would prevent him from becoming diabetic.

Trial and Error
Years of inconsistent eating along with a family history of diabetes and high blood pressure were working against Pete.
Even with his aggressive diet changes, he began to notice his running was suffering.
Pete came to find out that cutting all sugar and carbohydrates out of his diet was affecting his running.
As an endurance runner, his body required a certain amount of sugar and carbs.
Pete returned to the basics of how to eat and fuel properly with the help of a registered dietician.
Thus began an ongoing process of trial and error when it came to how and when to fuel.
The key to his success so far has been finding balance in his diet.
Pete had to overhaul his lifestyle and he maintains that it was a struggle in the beginning.
Self Mastery
Pete’s mantra is, “one step, one breath, one mile at a time.”
Life is a learning process and 2017 was an especially transformative year for Pete.
In 2017, he was forced into a single-parenting role.
Running provided him a way to unplug his brain which was especially crucial at that time.
Pete believes in self-reflection as a way to develop and evolve as both a person and as a runner.
The work on oneself is ongoing and never stops.
The passing of his mom recently has greatly affected Pete.
He runs because it’s his celebration and because his mom said so.
