QT: It’s Ok to Make Running a Priority (In Fact, It’s a Good Thing!)


If you’ve ever been on an airplane, no doubt you’ve heard (or ignored) the pre-flight spiel from the flight attendants.

  • Use your seat cushion as a floatation device.
  • Seat backs and tray tables upright and locked.
  • Put your oxygen mask on first.

The oxygen mask? That one is kind of a big deal.

So much so that when you’re traveling with small children, the flight attendants literally come up to each parent after the initial spiel to make sure they understand the importance of putting their own mask on before helping the kids put their mask on.

The reason?

Simple.

You have to take care of yourself first so that you are capable of then helping those around you.

Running is a Form Self-Care

The fact of the matter is, self-care comes in a variety of different forms.

For me, and quite likely for you, running is absolutely a form of self-care.

When I’m not running regularly, I’m not exactly a joy to be around!

Don’t believe me? Just ask Rebakah!

In order to be the best husband, father, coach, friend, etc., running pretty much has to be a regular part of my self-care routine.

Therefore, I absolutely make running a priority in my life.

Self-Care is Not Selfish

Taking care of yourself is not a selfish act.

In fact, taking care of yourself may be one of the least selfish things that you can do!

In order to take care of others, you have to take care of yourself.

As runners, one of the most important things we can do is run!

So don’t feel bad about getting your miles in, especially when life gets a bit crazy!

Self-care is important, so make it the priority that it should be!
