QT: Sometimes a Change Really Will Do You Good
One thing that I struggle with, more than I care to admit, is the idea of change.
Shocking, I know.
Given how much I talk about routine and being a creature of habit, it’s probably not a shock to hear that I’m not really one who is looking to make a change for change’s sake.
That said, sometimes that’s exactly what needs to be done.
A Change Will Do You Good
It’s time for me to channel my inner Sheryl Crow and recognize that it’s time for a change around here.
I don’t know how many interviews I’ve done for the podcast over the years, but it’s been at least a few.
There will be more interviews to come, no doubt about that, but for now, I’m taking a break from releasing one interview per week.
The QT’s and the Q&A?
Every Friday I’ll still be showing up in your feed with something.
But the interviews?
I’m loosely aiming for one interview a month, but that’s hardly a hard and fast rule right now.
Most months there will be one.
A few months? I’ll probably not have any. And every so often there will be two or three.

Why?
If I’m honest, I’ve been thinking about pulling back on the interviews for a while now.
I’ve kept grinding them out for a few reasons, but the reason I’m taking a break from interviews now ultimately comes down to time management.
Point blank, I feel like I need to clear up a little more time to work on some other projects in order to take the next step in building the Empire.
The second book. YouTube. Some other digital projects/assets.
I have no shortage of ideas, but time is obviously a limiting factor.
Each episode takes me somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-5 hours to prep for, record, and then put together after the chat.
Freeing up somewhere between 10-15 hours per month, assuming the average of one interview still being released per month, allows a bit more time to work on some other things.
Is It Time for You to Think About a Change?
There is a Quick Tip in here, I promise.
Depending on where you are in your pursuit of your running goals, it might be time to change things up a bit.
If what you’re doing is working?
Then more of the same probably makes a lot of sense.
But if it feels like you’re more or less treading water at the moment? Doing the work but not really making any progress?
Then a change might do you good.
It could be a big change. It may only be a minor tweak.
Not All Changes are the Right Changes
The risk when it comes to making changes, big or small, is that the change makes things worse instead of better.
There is certainly a chance that by cutting the weekly interviews from the mix, my business totally falls apart.
I don’t think that’s likely, but I’d be lying to myself if I didn’t acknowledge that as a possibility.
And if you think that a change to your running is necessary, it’s important to be aware that whatever change you make isn’t guaranteed to succeed.
Thankfully, most changes can be undone.
If things seem to be collapsing around here over the next few months?
Then I go back to doing weekly interviews.
The same is likely true with any change you may be thinking about making to your running.
If it becomes clear that your change isn’t working, provided you gave it enough time to actually move the needle, you can always go back to doing what you were doing and make a different tweak.
Rinse and repeat until you stumble upon the change that makes a positive difference for you.
Sometimes the best way to move forward is to change what you're doing. #runchat Click To Tweet
