Ralph Mesquita is Preparing to Run Across Europe for a Great Cause
Ralph Mesquita is an ultra runner with something big up his sleeve for 2017.

Ralph Mesquita
As with most ultra runners, Ralph is of the belief that the marathon is too “short and fast” for his taste, which is further evidence that I’ll never understand the ultra running mindset…
Getting Into Running
Ralph has a history as an athlete in a variety of team sports, but he was never a part of a track or cross country team.
However, his dad is a bit of a runner and that is how Ralph got into the sport.
Ralph has only been running for a handful of years, and he started running ultras even more recently, so he’s still new to the long distances. However, he enjoys the challenge (mental and physical) of pushing beyond the marathon distance.

Preparing for a Cross Continental Adventure
In 2017, Ralph will setting out on an epic adventure by running north to south across European continent.
I asked Ralph how he prepares for an event like this, he the answer is quite obvious: very carefully!
The thing that Ralph is most focused on at this point of his training, in addition to his running, is his recovery.
In addition to getting adequate rest and taking care of his muscles/body, Ralph has also changed his diet. He’s switched to a vegan diet, and Ralph feels like removing animal products from his diet has definitely helped him speed up the recovery process.
2017 North/South Eurocross
The seeds of Ralph’s 2017 adventure were planted about a year ago, when a handful of different runners were trying similar epic running adventures in the United States.
Ralph realized that those adventures were garnering lots of attention, and he begin thinking about a way to do something similar. But instead of doing so for the personal fame/notoriety that an adventure of that magnitude may bring with it, he’s doing it for the greater good.
Ralph Mesquite is running across Europe to raise awareness about the health problems associated with obesity worldwide and to increase European unity.

It’s Always More Fun to Run With Others
Clearly a project like this requires loads of planning and attention to details, but the thing Ralph is looking forward to most is the opportunity to run with folks along the way.

Congratulations to this young boy who already covered 3,500 Km. Two marathons a day for 75 days to raise awareness about childhood obesity. My respect !
