QT: Ready or Not, Try to Relax on Race Day

Awhile back, I bought a copy of Tools of Titans, which is a mammoth book written by Tim Ferriss.

Get yourself a copy, if you don’t already have one. You’ll thank me later.

Anyway, I was really struggling with what to talk about in today’s quick tip, so I pulled the book off the shelf in hopes of getting a little inspiration.

Found some.

You’re Either Ready or Not on Race Day

Come up to me before a race starts and ask me if I’m ready–I dare you!

No worries, I’m not going to bite your head off.

What I’m probably going to do instead is smile and say that it doesn’t really matter at this point.

Why?

Because whether I’m feeling ready or not, the race is getting ready to start and I’m going to have to go out there and give it what I’ve got on that day.

Sometimes I forget that not everyone is as laid back as I am.

LOL

If the race is getting ready to start, there’s not a whole lot you can do to become more prepared for the race than you already are.

  • At this point, either you’ve done your training, or you haven’t.
  • You’ve taken care of the “little things” to be in top shape, or you’ve neglected them.
  • Your mind is in the right place, or it’s not.

When I was looking through Tools of Titans, there was a conversation with Triple H of WWE fame in which he recounted a conversation he had with Floyd Mayweather.

Trips was a guest of Floyd’s for a big fight, and Floyd had asked Triple H to come hang out in the locker room before the bout. Triple H kept trying to leave because he assumed Floyd was a bit wound up before one of the biggest matches in his career to that point.

And Floyd’s comment was genius.

Why would I be wound up? I’m either ready or I’m not. Worrying about it right now ain’t gonna change a damn thing… I’ve either done everything I can to be ready for this, or I haven’t.

Chew on that for a minute…

Bottom Line:

Relax

It's race day, whether you feel ready or not! Try to relax, because worrying isn't going to help at all! Click To Tweet
