Quick Tip: Rest and Recovery is Important, So Schedule It (And Make It Happen)

How important is proper rest and recovery to you?

How important is it to you to successfully reach, and potentially exceed, your running goals?

If you didn’t answer these two questions with basically the same answer, then you’ve got a problem.

You Can’t Have One Without the Other

Can I be blunt?

(Of course I can, I’m the one writing this post and it’s my blog/podcast!)

If you don’t make rest and recovery a priority, you will never reach your potential as a runner.

You might be able to reach your current goals, but eventually a lack of rest and recovery is going to catch up to you.

What is the Coterie

Simple: at some point a lack of proper/adequate rest or recovery is going to limit how far you can grow as a runner.

That may mean you wind up breaking down physically.

That may mean you simply plateau and fail to see continued progress in the pursuit of your goals.

Proper rest and recovery is that important.

You Have to Make It a Priority

In this busy world in which we live, proper rest and recovery don’t just happen.

If you aren’t making it a priority it won’t happen.

If you’re serious about your running goals, odds are you make your training a priority.

So why aren’t you making your recovery as much of a priority as your training?

That is an Excellent Question

I know.

And to be honest, there is no good answer.

Making sure that you’re getting enough rest doesn’t happen by accident.

It only happens by being intentional, and the best way to be intentional is to schedule your rest and recovery.

What does scheduling rest and recovery look like?

  • Off days.
  • Foam rolling.
  • Yoga.
  • Sleep.

And yes, I actually mean scheduling these things.

Put them in your planner. Set calendar alerts. Sign up for a class.

Make. Recovery. A priority.

Literally, put foam rolling for 15 minutes per night as a recurring reminder on your phone. And when your phone buzzes to remind you, get your ass off the coach and foam roll those legs!
