Staying Motivated Without a Race to Train For (with Video)
This past weekend I ran my last “race” of the year at the Wine and Dine Half Marathon, which this year become the Wine and Dine “Little Farther Than a 10k”.
The problem I know face is something I try to prevent as much as possible, and that is staying motivated when I no longer have a race to train for.
As of right now, I have no races on my calendar for the rest of 2015, and I haven’t planned anything for 2016 yet either. And when I’m not training for anything in particular, I definitely struggle with getting up early to go run on a consistent basis.
But over the years of facing this struggle, I’ve developed a handful of tips that I use to help me stay motivated until I’m able to sign up for my next race.

Great tips and great timing for this post. There’s not a training schedule hanging on my fridge and no races on the calendar. I will try a few of these tips for sure…but I really need to “man-up” and sign up for the big one. Yikes. (Love the song, one of my faves from the 80s)
Sometimes some down time is a good thing. Just gotta shift your focus/motivation to something else if you don’t have a specific race on the calendar yet. For me, I’ve got to make a big push to get my miles in by 12/31!
