QT: Usually, It’s Not as Bad as It Seems (Best Of-ish)

This post/episode was originally published in June of 2017. The following post/show notes are basically copy/pasted from the orignal post, but the audio is a new take on the subject.

Humans can be a rather dramatic bunch, and we runners are humans so we can be a bit dramatic too.

Has that three-word phrase ever come out of your mouth? Probably.

When you uttered those words, had you really just completed your worst run ever? Doubtful. Read more

Give The Gift They Really Want: The Best Gifts for Runners

When you’re shopping for a runner, what is a gift they are sure to love?

The Reaction You’re Going For…

On the surface, that sounds like a pretty easy question.

As an example, runners need shoes, so a new pair of running shoes would make a great gift, right?

Well…

If you get the “right” shoes for the runner that you’re shopping for, then a new pair of shoes is an amazing gift! The problem is, there are roughly 4,723,289 different running shoes available and only 1 or 2 of those would be the “right” shoe.

As a runner, I can confidently say that if you got me a brand new pair of shoes that weren’t one or two specific styles of a particular brand I would NEVER wear them running.

As runners, we are peculiar like that.

And here’s the really bad news, we are peculiar about all of our gear that we use on a regular basis.

Clothes, gels, shoes, drinks…

There are, however, some gifts that work for most runners no matter what their particular peculiarities happen to be.

Shoe Review: The Altra Superior 2.0 (with Video)

Once I decided I was going to run regularly on the trails here in town, I knew that meant I was going to have to get a pair of trail running shoes as well.

As an Altra Ambassador, and just a huge fan of all things Altra anyway, it didn’t take me long to decide that the Altra Superior 2.0 was the shoe I was going to try.

And after the first run, I knew it was the right choice.

In this video, I’ll be talking about what makes this a great shoe, some of the positives of the shoe that I’ve experienced first hand to this point, as well as bring up a couple of questions/concerns that I still have about the Altra Superior 2.0.

***FTC Notice: As an Altra Ambassador, I received 2 free pairs of shoes from the company. Offering an honest shoe review is not required as an ambassador, and nothing stated or implied in this post/video has been influenced by anyone from Altra in any way. All opinions expressed in this post are completely my own.

Choosing the Right Running Coach for You and Your Goals (with Video)

For many runners, especially us “regular runners”, the thought of working with a running coach may seem like a luxury.

While it’s true that hiring a coach is not a requirement, there are many benefits for working with a running coach no matter how much experience you (do or don’t) have, and regardless of how fast you run.

But how do you go about choosing the right running coach for you?

Too often, the decision is made based on price and/or name recognition. I would argue that those factors should be considered, but they shouldn’t be the primary reason that one coach is hired over another.

When it comes to choosing the right running coach for you, the most important thing to consider is how you and the potential coach get along. Because the better you get along, the better your chances are of success.

No matter how famous the coach may be.
