Why is Laura Parson Running 3,030 Miles in 67 Days?

Ultra marathoners are crazy, at least that’s my stance. I’ve said it before. I’ll say it again. I love them to death but they are fricking crazy!

And then there’s Laura Parson.

While she is an ultra marathoner, and by definition crazy, she’s also organizing and training for a cross country adventure this summer that I can’t begin to even fathom.

Diz Runs With… Ian Sharman

On today’s run, I’m joining Ian Sharman for a few easy miles. Now, if you don’t know who Ian is, you’re obviously not a member of the ultra marathon community.

Ian Sharman

Ian Sharman

Since he started running, which was only about 10 years ago, he has completed 200 marathon or longer races! He has also set a new record for the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning, become the director of the US Sky Running Series, and coaches some of the top ultra marathoners in the world. To say this guy is a pillar in the ultra running community is obviously an understatement. Read more

Diz Runs With… Laura Skladzinski

On today’s run, I get to run with a world record holder, a 50 State Club member, and a Century Club member, which is quite a trifecta for a runner.

Laura Skladzinski set the world recored in 2010 as the youngest woman to finish a marathon in each of the 50 states, becoming a 50 stater in the process, and has continued running since then recently earning entry into the marathon runner Century Club.

When I first discovered Laura and learned of her accomplishments, I assumed that she had probably been a life long runner, but I was quite surprised the find out that wasn’t the case.

Here are a few highlights of the conversation we had on our run:

  • Laura started her running “career” with a simple goal–run 1 mile without walking.
  • Why she chose the Vermont City Marathon as her 1st marathon.
  • Going out the night before a race with no decrease in performance.
  • Over the course of 105 marathons, some end up better than others.

Make sure you follow along with Laura as she continues running marathons across the country and around the world.

Diz Runs With… Sarah Stanley

On today’s show, I am joined by endurance athlete and nutrition aficionado Sarah Stanley.

Sarah Stanley

If you don’t know who Sarah is, you really need to check her out. She has a passion for running and cycling, but she also has a passion for helping others. She has run races to raise awareness and funds for some great causes and is always willing to help out anyone who has questions about health, wellness, and nutrition.

Here are a few highlights of the conversation we had on our run:

  • A 36 mile training run without bringing adequate provisions.
  • A 100 mile run to raise awareness for the Blood:Water mission.
  • Busting popular runner myths, such as pre-race carb loading, mid-race sports drinks, and chocolate milk as a post-race recovery drink.
  • “Runners can be some of the most unhealthy people.”

Whether you would consider yourself a serious runner or not, there is no question that the food you eat is vitally important.

Sarah’s passion for health and nutrition is on full display over the course of our run, and it’s amazing how much information we packed into this brief conversation. If you’d like to learn more about the role that your food plays in your health, there are a variety of ways that you can connect with Sarah and pick up some of the bits of wisdom that she so freely shares.

Do me a favor and send Sarah a quick tweet to let her know what your biggest takeaway has been from listening to her on the show.

Diz Runs With… Mark Remy

In the first episode of Diz Runs With, I’m chatting and running with Mark Remy, editor at large with Runner’s World and the writer of the Remy’s World blog on runnersworld.com.

A few highlights from our run–

  • The electric atmosphere of the 2014 Boston Marathon
  • Mark’s favorite rules from his book, The Runner’s Rule Book.
  • The best and worst parts of working for Runner’s World.
  • There is a sequel to The Runner’s Rule Book in the works, stay tuned for more updates!

10441418_787953677905460_7335061232884571890_nWe also talked about how awesome Meb and Shalane ran at Boston this year. For Meb to win Boston this year, because of the events of 2013, was so amazing. And the fact that Shalane pushed the pace and PR’d by 3 minutes shows not only how tough she is, but also how she ran a perfect race.

Mark even mentioned a picture that he has on his Facebook page that would suggest that Ms. Flanagan is a fan of the Remy’s World Blog.
