Florida 10 Series Lakeland Race Recap

This past weekend, I ran in the inaugural Florida 10 Series race here in Lakeland. The Florida 10 Series is a new series of 10 mile races within the state of Florida where cumulative times over the course of the entire series determines overall winners.

While I’m not running the entire series, I ran the race in Lakeland, which was my first ever 10 miler.

Nothing like a guaranteed PR, eh?

The race series consists of 2 race weekends, one in the spring and one in the fall. The fall weekend includes race distances of 5k, 10k, half, and full. The spring weekend is a little more unique, with a 7k, 11k, and half marathon distance. So if you’re looking for a PR, a 7k or 11k race might be just what you need! Read more

The Aching Quad 2013 Recap

This past weekend, the Lakeland Runner’s Club put on their annual Aching Quad race series.

The Aching Quad is a 4 race series, with all 4 races taking place within a 24 hour period. The first race, a 5k, took place Friday evening. Then on Saturday morning, we ran a quick 1 miler at 7am, followed by a 2 miler an hour and a half later. We took the hot part of the day off, and then reconvened for the final 5k on Saturday evening.

For some of you, that may not sound all that daunting. If you run these races hard, especially the two races on Saturday morning, you’d be surprised how difficult this series actually is. I don’t think I underestimated the cumulative effect of 4 races in 24 hours, but the Aching Quad series is no joke. Believe me.
