Tina Muir Representing Great Britain

Tina Muir is Open About Her Struggles as an Elite Runner

Today I’m running with another elite runner, and I’m definitely hoping to learn a thing or two from Tina Muir along the way.

Tina Muir Representing Great Britain

Tina Muir Representing Great Britain

Tina came to the US from England to run at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI, and definitely had a very successful college career. And after finishing 3rd in the Olympic Trials (in the 10k), she became even more determined to continue running and pursuing her goals.

And that determination has paid off!

Over the course of our chat, we talked about her past marathon experience, a pretty crazy double that she’s attempting (and that she’s halfway through), her perspective on recovery, comparing youth running in the US and England, and more.

Here are Some of the Highlights of My Chat with Tina Muir

  • Her struggles with her first two marathons
  • Having a better experience at the London Marathon, but still wondering if she could have race harder
  • The roller coaster of emotions of being so close to making the Great Britain team for the 1/2 Marathon World Championships (She got the call to run for GB after all!)
  • Caving to peer pressure to run the London Marathon a month after the 1/2 Marathon World Championships?
  • The recovery process after a race, especially the week or so of not running immediately after the race
  • Running for local clubs not for your school, is one of the big differences between youth running in England and the USA
  • Hosting the Runner’s Connect podcast, Run for the Top
  • Her future goals for races don’t tend to include specific times, and a bigger goal beyond her performance
  • An iron man in the distant future?

No Left Turn: April Fools Day Running Prank

Quick Tip: April Fools Day Events for Runners I’d Like to See

I’m honestly not the biggest fan of April Fools Day, largely because I’m not creative enough to come up with any creative/fun/harmless gags.

That said, last year was perhaps the most successful April Fools Day in my life. (I even got angry text messages from my wife, it was that good!)

How She Probably Looked While Sending Said Texts

How I Imagine She Looked While Sending Said Texts

Since there is little chance of me being able to pull off a good April Fools Day prank two years in a row, I’m not even going to try this year.

Listener Q&A March 2016

Listener Q&A March 2016

Another month is drawing to a close, and that can only mean one thing:

Listener Q&A March 2016

Listener Q&A March 2016

It’s Q&A Time!

If you’re new to the party, welcome!

The way this works is pretty simple, I ask for questions and then I try to answer them!

We do this every month, and if you ever want to get your questions answered on the show the best way to do so is to join our FB Group.

Once you’re in the group, in addition to cracking jokes and talking running with everyone else in the group, be on the lookout for a thread (that will include a photo similar to the one above) where I’m asking for questions.

Add your question in the comments, and that’s all there is to it!

So without any further ado, let’s get on to this month’s questions! Read more

Jonathan Levitt

Jonathan Levitt is Back & Talking About the Benefits of Knowing Yourself

Today I’m going for a round two with Jonathan Levitt, who made his initial appearance on the back in Episode 24.

Jonathan Levitt

Jonathan Levitt

Since our first run together (over 200 episodes ago!), plenty has changed in Jonathan’s life while plenty has stayed the same.

His answer to the “What is your favorite distance to race and why?” question was almost exactly the same as it was a couple of years ago! When I added a little twist to the question, which I’ve done for most folks that have come back on to the show for a second time, his answer was a bit surprising. (To me at least!) Read more
