The Biggest Competition for Teresa DeMers is Herself
Today I’m running a few easy miles with an athlete that is no stranger to the show.
Teresa DeMers, also known as Pumpkin, was on the show nearly 100 episodes ago for the Salty Running Extravaganza.

Teresa is now here for her own episode, and I think that this is going to be a fun one.
Talk About a Jump!
Teresa is not a life long runner. In fact, through most of her life, she didn’t even see herself as being athletically inclined.
After four years post college, getting married, going to grad school, and having kids, Teresa was looking for something to fill her time. (Seriously? Where were you finding all of this time Teresa? ~Ed.)
When Teresa started her training, she used the couch to 5k app. But Teresa decided to go big for her first race. Going from never running a race, to instantly to a half marathon sounded very appealing.
But instead of running a 5k Teresa decided to go big for her first race and registered for a half marathon instead!

A Salty Family
Teresa has always loved writing.
Teresa stumbled into the Salty Running community while they were looking for new contributors to join the team. After a few clicks and submitting a writing sample, Teresa joined the Saltines in October of 2015.
Salty Running has given Teresa a completely new understanding of the sport.
Teresa would even go as far to say that she has gained more from the community than she believes she has contributed.
Mental Struggles
Teresa, like myself, struggles with the mental facet of running.
In many races, Teresa has given in to the temptation to take a walk break when she may not have really needed.
And we are in full agreement that coming back to running in a race after taking a walk break is nearly impossible.
In order to combat the mental demons that pop up mid-race, Teresa advises us to practice compassion and to have a short memory.
If you can let go of your bad runs quickly, you have the opportunity to deliver your best the next time.
For some, #running comes easy. For others, it takes some effort! #SaltyRunning #MentalGame Click To Tweet

There’s always room for more members of the tribe! Both the Facebook group and the email group provide opportunities that can’t be found anywhere else. The Facebook group is still small, but it is a great way to connect with fellow runners and foster community amongst like minded individuals. The email group is THE way to stay up to date about future guests on the show, as well as getting some other freebies and offers that aren’t available to anyone else. If you’ve got questions about either/both, just let me know!
