QT: So Much for Which to be Thankful
Next week is Thanksgiving, at least here in the States, and as such, I thought today might be a good day to talk about some things I’m thankful for.
I don’t know about you, but I feel like the whole “actual being thankful” part of Thanksgiving gets a pretty short shift these days.
Sure, I think most of us at least give a passing thought to being thankful for our friends/family.
But for a lot of folks, myself more included than I’d like to admit, Thanksgiving is as much about watching football and eating all the things as it is about taking a moment being truly thankful for the many blessings in my life.
So I’m going to do that today, and hopefully, make a point of doing so on Turkey Day as well.
My Running Blessings
In no particular order, here are a handful of running-related things that I’m incredibly thankful for:
Clean Air
I rarely think about air quality.
That, in and of itself, is a huge blessing!
In case you weren’t aware, breathing is kind of important for us as runners.
Occasionally, there will be places here in the States where air quality becomes an issue.
For the most part, when I step out of our door to go running I don’t have to worry about the quality of the air I’m breathing.
But in other parts of the world?
Clean air is far from a given.
So. Many. Races.
We really are spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing which races to add to our schedule each year.
And the crazy thing is that even though I think there are too many races, more are added each year!
The glut of races is a wonderful thing for us as runners because we have so many options to choose from!
Short. Long. Road. Trail. Big city. Small town.
Whatever your “ideal” race happens to be, you can find it if you look hard enough.
The Internet
The internet is a beautiful thing.
I use it to make a living. I use it to interact with my friends. And I use it to share some knowledge and help others.
Is the internet perfect?
But am I thankful for the power of the internet to help me connect with people from all corners of the globe?
You better believe it.
The Running Community
It’s been said on the show several times, but runners really are good people.
And I am so thankful for the running community, both local and online, for all the good we are able to do in the world.
I’m honored for the small role I play in the running community at large, and I’m thankful for you and the part you play as well.
Last but Not Least
I can’t wrap up a post about the blessings in my life without giving a shoutout to the lady that makes all of this possible: Mrs. Diz herself.
Without her love and support, there is no podcast. Or Facebook group. Or any of the other things that have come together to form the basis of the Diz Runs Empire over the past 5+ years.
Take Time to Be Thankful
Whether or not you’re celebrating Thanksgiving next week, do me a favor at some point in the next week to take time to reflect on all the things that you have to be thankful for.
Maybe some of our items overlap. Maybe you have a completely different list of things for which to be happy.
But if your life is anything like mine, you know it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the day. It’s easy to focus on the things we don’t have or the things that have gone wrong.
And it’s easy to take for granted the things that we should be most thankful for.
But by taking the time to be thankful, even for just a few minutes between football games on Thursday, it helps us to remember how fortunate we truly are.
What are You Thankful for Right Now?
