Tom Foreman is Back! We Catch Up After His Year of Running Dangerously
Today I’m going a few easy miles with one of the most popular guests in the history of the show.
Tom Foreman chatted with me for the first time nearly 300 episodes ago If you missed that chat, I’d definitely encourage you to go back and give it a listen.

Tom Foreman on the Run
When we first talked Tom had recently published his book My Year of Running Dangerously.
Now he’s back to share some more stories and let us know what he’s been up to since we last spoke.
Running All the Miles
When we last spoke, Tom was in the midst of running A LOT of miles!
Tom was planning to run five marathons in five days, NYC, Philadelphia, and an ultra all in about a month!
Tom went into this month of running with one thought in his mind: keep moving forward!
Obviously, it was quite the challenge physically and mentally, and Tom was surprised at how long it took him to really feel recovered from that busy month!

A New Focus on Speed
This year, Tom is focusing on getting faster in the marathon.
Boston is the goal, and Tom is confident that this will be his year.
Tom has added a lot of track work to his training because “it keeps you honest.”
Point blank, there is no gray area when you are doing your workouts on the track.
A few days after our chat, Tom was running the Marquette marathon as his latest BQ attempt.
The results?

Nailed It!
Distraction Free Running
With his hectic job at CNN, Tom finds himself bogged down by the “fire hose of information” he is faced with everyday.
For Tom, running allows him a chance to get away from the noise and to be with himself.
Instead of listening to music, or a great podcast, while running, Tom prefers taking in the sounds of the run. And to be honest, that is something I would like to do more often as well.
Tom even found that running without a watch could lead to your best time ever. Running by effort, rather than by what the watch tells you, can be an eye opening experience for sure.
