Runners Share Their Running Resolutions for 2015

Fellow Runners Offer Their Running Resolutions for 2015

If you’ve been paying attention for the past few days, it’s pretty clear that I’m a fan of New Year’s Resolutions. Whether you want to call them resolutions or goals for the year, I love making big plans for myself and being able to see how much my hard work and consistent effort can accomplish over a period of weeks and months.

When I talk about my goals and plans for 2015, I hope that I’m able to inspire others to set big goals for themselves and then do whatever it takes to achieve them by the end of the year.

I’m not the only runner in the world that has goals for 2015 that are capable of inspiring action in others. I asked a number of running friends of mine to share their goals for their running this year, and I was floored by the response.

Each of us have our own reasons to run, but all of us have days where we would rather stay on the couch than hit the roads/trails.

How to Eat an Elephant and Keep Your 2015 Resolutions

There are no shortage of adages out there designed to help you stay the course and make incremental progress when you’re working on tackling a big goal.

Chinese, Proverb, Progress, Steady, Consistent

The hardest part of being successful when chasing down big goals is often simply staying the course. On January 1st, it’s easy to set big goals for the new year. If you read my post from yesterday, you know that I’ve got some big goals for myself in 2015.

There is no way that I will be able to accomplish any of those goals in a few weeks. Or even a few months. But by the end of the year, if I keep making steady progress, there is no reason that I can’t be successful with all of my goals.

Whether or not you made any resolutions yesterday, there is a good chance there is something that you’re working on that is a big picture/long term kind of project. It could be running related or it could be something completely removed from running.

Whatever you are working towards, whatever your goal is, there is no reason that you can’t be successful. Oftentimes, the biggest hurdle to your own success, New Year’s Resolution or otherwise, is yourself.

So get out of your own way.

If you keep moving forward, keep making small progress and don’t give up, there is nothing that can prevent you from reaching the goals/resolutions that you have set for yourself, this year and beyond.

How I’m Going to Take the (Virtual) Running World By Storm in 2015

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with New Years Resolutions for a number of years now.

Calvin and Hobbes. Classic…

For most of my life, I really thought the idea of making resolutions was ridiculous. My thought had always been that deciding to do something positive for your life/health was too important to wait for a new year to begin. Also, there is a lot more pressure to keep your resolutions than there is to continue the good habits you decided to implement on a random day in April, July, October, or whenever else you decided to start.

So instead of waiting for a new year to get started, why not focus on bettering yourself every day? Read more

Diz Runs With… Liza Howard

Stopping to pump breast milk while running (and winning!) an ultra marathon is just another day at the office for Liza Howard. I joined Liza for a few easy miles recently, and we had a pretty awesome conversation.

Liza Howard

Liza Howard-san?

Liza and I talked about running, of course, but as we both have young kids family and parenthood stories were topics we transitioned into as well. Liza got started in running ultra marathons basically because of the peer pressure of hanging out with other ultra runners and just getting talked into running longer and longer distances. And like I always say, peer pressure is no fun until you give in! Read more
