Listener Q&A: January 2024

Become a Patron!

For the 10th straight year, we are wrapping up January with a little Q&A!

What

I didn’t realize I’ve been doing these episodes for so long either, but here we are.

Let’s crack on then!

You Ask, I Answer!

In case you’re new to these parts, here’s what’s going on.

At the end of every month, I do an episode dedicated to you and your questions.

Want to get a question answered in a future Q&A episode? Come join our FB group, watch for the post asking for Qs, and put your query in the comments.

Basically, whatever you ask I try to answer!

Sometimes, the answers aren’t worth a whole lot. But every once in a while I like to think (or at least hope!) that I hit the nail on the head!

When it comes to free advice, there are no guarantees that you won’t get any more than what you paid for it.

That said, I promise to do my best!

And if nothing else, there are usually at least a few decent memes/GIFs to make it worth your while.

Let’s get into this month’s questions, shall we?

This Month’s Questions

Have you ever trained anyone for a 401k?

How should I train for a sandy race if I don’t have any beach access?

Make It Work

How should I build from a marathon to a 50-miler with elevation?

Any “leaps” from you we should look forward to?

How have you been handling this GA cold? Remind you of MI winters a little bit?

Laughing

What is the craziest weather you’ve ever run in?

Do you think coaching helps make runners more accountable? Or do they tend to hire a coach because they already committed?

I Don't Know

Thoughts on running a bit to warm up before a marathon?

Any football games on this weekend?

Do you struggle with pushing yourself on race day when you do most of your runs easy?

I’m not going to make the cutoffs for my next race. Should I start and do the best I can, or give my spot to someone on the wait list?

That is an Excellent Question

Thoughts on reintroducing speed work after an injury?

What are you doing with the extra time now that you’re not doing interviews every week?

Any thoughts as to what marathon you’ll run in TX?

Eh...

For single-leg balance work, should I avoid holding anything for support?

With a 25-35 mile weekly average, is ~4 months enough time to build to a marathon?

Thanksgiving and Christmas are off the board, what’s your favorite holiday?

What are your thoughts on combining Galloway training with effort-based training?

Thoughts on doing a timed event with a mileage goal?

And that’s that…
