Today I’m joining up with Michael Deza for a third time!
In our first chat, Michael was really focused on moving up from the sub-elite level of road running to becoming an elite marathoner.
Several months later and after running Boston, which had been a big goal for several years, Michael had shifted his sights to improving at the half marathon.
A number of months later, Michael Deza has changed his priorities again.
Getting into Climbing/Bouldering
While Michael isn’t giving up running completely, he is now spends much more time training to improving his climbing and bouldering abilities.
Michael’s brother invited him to go the a climbing gym with him, and it didn’t take long for Michael to become hooked.
Climbing quickly became Michael’s cross training activity of choice, and he now has goals to compete and excel at this particular sport.
And even though he’s only been climbing for a short time, Michael has already seen the benefits that climbing has on his running.

You Never Know What the Future Holds
A year ago when I first talked to Michael on the show, I would have never guessed we’d be having this conversation 12 months later.
And that, to me, is a beautiful thing.
It has been my experience that many people get locked in their “routines”, and are unwilling/scared to change course. Michael has embraced his evolution over the last year, not fought it.
As Michael looks forward now, he sees a see of options in front of him.
He is certain that running will continue to be part of his life, but will it be the focus? Probably not.
Michael will continue to pursue climbing/bouldering, is thinking about giving ultra marathons a shot, and is starting to test the waters of mountain biking.
And none of those things were on his radar a year ago…
