Speaking

“Words have incredible power. They can make the heart soar, or they can make the heart sore.”

~Dr. Mardy Grothe

I believe that words have incredible power.

I also believe that harnessing that power for the benefit of the audience is the responsibility of any good speaker.

I take that responsibility very seriously.

Whether I’m speaking in front of thousands of people or just a handful, the objective of my speech is always the same: inspire those that hear my words to think differently at the end of the speech than they did at the beginning.

In short, every time I take the stage I strive to make hearts soar…

The Reasons We Run

“Why do you run?”

That is a relatively simple and straightforward question, yet it is a question that can be very difficult to answer.

Why is that?

In this presentation, I’ll look at the science that makes answering this question harder than it should be (spoiler alert: it’s how we are wired). I’ll also share some of the common reasons runners give when asked why they run before taking a much more in depth look at those answers and then exploring the REAL reasons that we run.

Key Points:
  • Why explaining to non-runners the reasons that we run is so difficult
  • Why every runner has their own “formula of reasons” that determines why they run
  • There is no right answer, there is only your answer
