How many times have you wanted to do something (running or otherwise), but didn’t because you weren’t ready to start today or didn’t have all of the tools/knowledge you’d need to get the job done or because the something just seemed to be too much?

You don’t have to publicly shame yourself today, but it’s worth thinking about all of the times we’ve made excuses to stop us from taking action towards our goals/dreams/desires.

Actions Trump Excuses. Every. Single. Time.

Since I talked to Gary Stotler for the podcast a few weeks ago, I’ve been thinking about some of the parts of his journey.

Bill Culver Got Bit by the Running Bug in a Serious Way


When he signed up for his first 5k, Bill Culver had no idea what he was getting himself into.

A little over a year later, he has run a lot of races, a lot of miles, and learned a lot of lessons about himself and about running in the process. On today’s run, I’m joining Ian Sharman for a few easy miles. Now, if you don’t know who Ian is, you’re obviously not a member of the ultra marathon community.

Since he started running, which was only about 10 years ago, he has completed 200 marathon or longer races! He has also set a new record for the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning, become the director of the US Sky Running Series, and coaches some of the top ultra marathoners in the world. To say this guy is a pillar in the ultra running community is obviously an understatement. Read more
