Matt Llano Continues to Improve as He Races More Marathons

Matt Llano is squarely in the mix for the title of the next great American marathoner.

Matt always thought that the marathon was going to be his best event. As his marathon debut approached, he had his sights set on making a splash and announcing his arrival onto the world stage.

To say things didn’t exactly go as planned would be an understatement.

But he’s learned from that experience and implemented those lessons, and new PRs in his next two marathons prove as much. Now the focus shifts to training for the Olympic Trials and (hopefully) running for the USA in the Rio Games.

We talked running and a whole lot more on todays episode and here are some of the highlights of the chat: Read more

Maggie Guterl

Maggie Guterl Took On the Best in the World and More Than Held Her Own

Maggie Guterl isn’t the type of person to blow her own horn and brag about her accomplishments, but she is a machine when it comes to ultra distance running.

When I asked Maggie about being a guest on the show, she said she’d do it but didn’t think she was necessarily worthy but that couldn’t be any further from the truth!

To be blunt, Maggie is an absolute beast!

While running for Team USA, she finished 4th at the World Championships and played a huge part in securing a team gold in the women’s 24 hour event. That right there is impressive enough on it’s own, never mind all of the other top finishes in ultra events over the past few years.

We talked about running at the World Championships, the Oil Creek 100, the Barkley Fall classic, and more during our chat today. Here are some of the highlights of today’s conversation. Read more

Ryan has an impressive resume to date, including being a multiple time NCAA All-American, leading his college cross country team to a national championship, running for the USA at several world cross country championships, and much more. As a marathoner, his times continue to improve year after year, and his goal is to continue running at a very high level for many years to come.

We had a great conversation and spent time talking about winning team silver at the world XC games, the importance of patience in reaching goals, how to avoid being a flash in the pan as an elite runner, and a whole lot more.

Ryan Hill

Ryan Hill Smoothly Transitioned from College Star to Elite Pro

Growing up, Ryan Hill was always best in class when it came to running the mile.

And that was just the start.

After starting to focus on running track in middle school, he steadily improved before becoming one of the top high school runners in his state (and also competing in some national events). After choosing to attend NC State, he steadily improved over his college career, culminating with making a US world team after his senior season.

As a pro, he continues to improve and has shown he belongs in the discussion on the national and international stages.

We talked about how he got his start as a runner, what his racing plans are for 2015, and he also offers some tips for us “regular” runners that I know I can benefit from (and hopefully you can too!). Here are some of the highlights from our chat: Read more
