My First Year on YouTube in Less Than 4 Minutes (with Video)

In 2015, I decided that I was going to commit to shooting and releasing one video on YouTube each week.

And now, looking back on a year’s worth of videos, I have to say that I am one hot mess!

My first year on YouTube has definitely been a learning experience and a big time challenge, but as the year went on I found myself enjoying the challenge more and more each week.

So will the videos continue in 2016?

You better believe it!

But before we worry too much about what’s to come next year, enjoy this look back at some of the highlights (and lowlights) of my first year on YouTube.

Benefits of Using a Foam Roller Regularly (with Video)

I’m definitely a big believe in using a foam roller for the therapeutic benefits that it provides.

That said, using a foam roller isn’t exactly a “fun” experience.

In this video, I’m talking about why the foam roller works, what exactly it does, and why you should invest the $15-20 to buy a good foam roller (affiliate link) and use the dang thing!

Types of Running Workouts: Part 2 (with Video)

If you remember last week’s video post, I talked about some of the different types of running workouts that you’re likely to complete as a runner. If you missed last week’s post, click here to check it out.

In this week’s post, I’m looking at the one type of workout that I didn’t touch on last week: speed training and some of the varieties of speed training that you may see.

Speed training is vitally important no matter what kind of race you are training for, from 5k to ultra marathon.

And the reason that speed training is one of the important types of running workout boils down to physiological benefits of running hard.

Speed work strengthens your heart and lungs, strengthens your bones, improves the strength and functionality of your muscles and tendons, and can also improve your form.

So yeah, it’s kind of important.

Common Questions About Strength Training for Runners

I’m a firm believer that regular strength training is a must for runners of all ability levels, both to aid in improvement and to reduce the risk of injury.

Yet every time I even mention the topic, I seem to get hit with the same questions about strength training for runners:

  • Will it make me bulk up?
  • When should I do it?
  • Why do I need to work out my upper body as well?

So in this video, I’m answering these common questions about strength training for runners.

Hopefully, if you’re not already, you’ll now be comfortable with the idea of adding regular strength training to your training schedule. And if you’re not sure where to start/what exercises to do, I’ve got you covered there as well!

If you have any questions about any of the exercises in these lists, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Tips & Tricks for Summer Running (with Video)

When it comes to summer running, it seems like there are two camps of runners: those of us that don’t mind sweating and those that take their workouts indoors and jump on a treadmill.

Honestly, I don’t understand why anyone would be pro-treadmill, but that’s a topic for another day.

If you’re planning to do your summer running outdoors, whether you’re training for a fall race or just getting some miles in, make sure you’re being smart and making wise decisions.

As I’ve talked about before, heat injuries can go from annoying to life threatening in a blink of the eye, so keep the signs and symptoms top of mind at all times. But as long as you’re not doing anything foolish, hard training in the summer can lead to huge gains in the fall!
