Michael Miller Is Making The “Born To Run” Experience Accessible To All

My guest on the show today is someone that is putting together one of, if not the, ultimate runcation experiences.

Aside from putting together a once in a lifetime experience for other runners, he is also a very experienced runner himself.

Michale Miller and Arnolfo

I am looking forward to going a few easy miles with Michael Miller today.

Celebration of Health

Michael was active growing up but never focused specifically on running.

It was Michael’s wife that suggested signing up for a 5k to support breast cancer.

The race would be their celebration for her being 10 years cancer free.

Training for and competing in the race was the point where running would remain a constant in both their lives.

As Michael has gotten older his areas of focus for running have gradually shifted.

Michael went from running multiple marathons over the years to transitioning to trails and ultra distances.

The Other “Happiest Place On Earth”

Most people associate Disney as the happiest place on earth, but Michael has other thoughts.

He has run and volunteered at numerous 100-mile races and he will argue that the finish line of an ultra is the happiest place.

The 100-mile distance has a special place in his heart for many reasons.

Every aspect of a person is challenged and the distance brings every variable into the race.

Michael has had to adjust certain parts of his training and recovery as he has gotten older.

Listening to your body is key at any age and committing more time to staying healthy is essential for an older runner.

Michael’s love for ultras and the beauty of nature led him in a direction he never expected.

Copper Canyon Ultramarathon

Ah-mazing.

Ultra Caballo Blanco is known internationally as the Copper Canyon Ultramarathon.

The book, “Born to Run,” rose to popularity quickly when it was first published and has remained a favorite of many runners.

The race was created as a way to honor Micah True “Caballo Blanco,” and the culture of the Tarahumara people.

Michael and his wife originally traveled to Urique, Mexico for an anniversary trip.

Every year since that initial trip, they have traveled there for the race.

The event and everything surrounding the event holds a certain magic.

Michael described it as, “meeting people you don’t know yet, but will love forever.”

Michael and his wife wanted to find a way to share the experience with other runners.

Choose Your Journey

The logistics of traveling to this remote area of Mexico for Caballo Blanco are not easy.

Michael is minimizing logistics and offering people a way to experience the magic of the canyons.

The experience is catered to all runners, not just people that want to run ultra distances.

A variety of endurance events are offered when registering, making the journey specific to the needs/wants of each person.

People can choose from a 4-day stage race, a 100-mile endurance run,  a marathon or a half marathon.

It is Michael’s goal to continue the original message of the race while raising awareness and supporting the locals.

The inaugural event will take place in October of 2019.
